How to Flip Image for T-Shirt Printing
Learn how to properly mirror your designs for iron-on transfers, heat press vinyl, and other t-shirt printing methods.
Why Do You Need to Mirror the Image?
When you print on iron-on transfer paper and then apply heat, the image gets reversed during the transfer process. To ensure your final design appears correctly on the t-shirt, you must mirror the image before printing.
This is especially important for:
- Text and lettering
- Logos with text
- Directional images (arrows, hands, etc.)
- Any asymmetrical design

Step-by-Step Instructions
1Open FlipMedia and Upload Your Design
Go to FlipMedia and upload your t-shirt design. Make sure your design looks exactly how you want it to appear on the finished shirt before mirroring.
2Select "Horizontal Flip"
Click the Horizontal Flip button. This mirrors your image left-to-right, which is exactly what you need for iron-on transfers.
Tip: The preview will show your mirrored image. Text will appear reversed - this is correct! It will look normal after transferring.
3Download the Mirrored Image
Click the Download button to save your mirrored design. The file will be ready for printing.
4Print on Transfer Paper
Print your mirrored image on iron-on transfer paper. Follow the paper manufacturer's instructions for your specific printer type.
- Use the highest quality print setting
- Make sure to print on the correct side of the paper
- Let the print dry completely before handling
5Transfer to Your T-Shirt
Place the printed transfer face-down on your t-shirt and apply heat according to the transfer paper instructions. When you peel away the backing, your design will appear correctly oriented!
